– President nominee must have served on another board role previously


PTO Officer Responsibilities

President: Serve as leader and key contact for the PTO; preside at all PTO meetings; ex-officio member of most committees; appoint chairpersons for special committees; coordinate the work of the officers and committees so that the PTO’s objectives can be met.

Vice President – Internal: Oversee internal affairs such as teacher appreciation, cultural arts, beautification and volunteers.

Vice President – External: Oversee external affairs such as community relations, fundraising and communications

Secretary: Keep the minutes of all general and executive board meetings; be responsible for correspondence; maintain master documents and records of the PTO.

Treasurer: Responsible for and have custody of all PTO funds; maintain financial records; make disbursements as properly authorized; be present at all PTO events where money will be collected; complete and file all necessary tax documents; prepare financial reports for each meeting and as needed; prepare books for audits.

Assistant Treasurer: Back up to the Treasurer, helps to ensure checks and balances are kept.  The Assistant Treasurer should be prepared to cover meetings when the PTO Treasurer is absent. Required to attend monthly meetings.  This is a yearly position.  It is assumed after one year this person would assume the role of Treasurer.

Parliamentarian: The parliamentarian shall be appointed by the President, subject to approval by the Officers. The parliamentarian shall study these Bylaws and Robert’s New Rules. The parliamentarian shall advise the presiding officer of parliamentary procedure when asked; and vote only when the vote is by ballot.
